She is the daughter of Jeanette Lilian Ponting and Thomas Hemmings. She took on the surname of her stepfather John McCutcheon. Martine is married to singer and songwriter Jack McManus, with whom she has a son.

Martine’s maternal grandfather was Ronald S. Ponting (the son of Sidney Edward Ponting and May Florence Brown). Ronald was born in Shoreditch, London, England.
